Police: Port Chester Girl Scared Off Intruder Who Tried To Sexually Assault Her
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are searching for an intruder who tried to sexually assault an 8-year-old girl after breaking into her bedroom in the middle of the night.
Port Chester police said the girl screamed and scared him away.
The girl told police she awoke about 2 a.m. Monday after hearing what sounded like a cigarette lighter and smelling smoke.

The girl told police the man, wearing a green shirt, placed his hands around her neck and tried to pull down her pants.
"We're worried because we think our home is a secure place," one neighbor said.
"It's disgusting," another neighbor said.
It is unclear how the man got into the Poningo Street home.
