Police: Officer Injured When Squad Car Is Rammed By Cabbie In Midtown East

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD officer was injured in a crash Midtown East Monday afternoon, when a cabbie allegedly rammed the officer's squad car while evading a traffic stop.

The cabbie also ended up getting injured in another crash shortly afterward, according to police.

Around 5:20 p.m., an officer pulled over the yellow cab on Madison Avenue at 45th Street, police told 1010 WINS.

The cab driver backed into the squad car and rammed it about six times while the officer was still inside, and took off, police said.

A half block away at 45th Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, the cab driver got into an accident with another yellow cab while fleeing, police said.

The cabbie was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center with minor back injuries, police said.

There were no passengers in either cab at the time of the incidents, police told CBS2.

The officer suffered minor neck and back injuries and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the second cab was not hurt, police told CBS2.

The cab driver who allegedly caused the crashes was expected to be charged, police said.
