That is what authorities said happened to a 36-year-old woman in West Hempstead, Long Island.
Nassau County police officer Jean DeLuca said after two men knocked on the woman's front door and she would not let them in, the men went around to the back door and broke in.
"She heard a loud banging in her rear door. So, she ran upstairs to her bedroom and hid in the closet while on the phone with a family member who called police. As she hid in the closet, she heard the defendants ransacking her room," DeLuca told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
Police arrived a short time later. The men had already left the house, but they were found hiding in a nearby shed.
The woman was not injured and her jewelry that was taken was recovered.
Arrested were Shakey Foster-Bey, 24; Johan M. Antney, 21; and Carl S. Brown, 23.
