Police: Man Was Robbed, Pistol-Whipped While Looking For Shoveling Jobs On L.I.
ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police were investigating Wednesday after a man was robbed and pistol-whipped while trying to get jobs shoveling snow in Elmont, Long Island.
Nassau County police detectives said the 26-year-old man was walking down Village Avenue in Elmont trying to obtain shoveling jobs, when he was approached by two suspects who demanded money.
When the man said no, one of the suspects took out a black handgun and struck him on the left side of the face with it, police said. The second man took out a silver gun as the first man went through the victim's pocket, police said.
Both suspects ended up fleeing empty-handed, police said.
The first suspect was described as a dark-skinned black male about 16 years old, standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with an average build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and a ski mask.
The second was described as a light-skinned black male standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build. He was last seen wearing a red jacket and a ski mask.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.
