Police: Man Impersonated Cop, Raped & Robbed Woman In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD's Police Impersonation Unit said it has arrested a sex offender for allegedly impersonating a police officer and then raping and robbing a woman in Brooklyn.

According to authorities, the 26-year-old victim met 37-year-old Jason Forgetta, who also goes by Jason Torres, on the street in Sunset Park on Wednesday.

Police said during the conversation, Forgetta showed the victim a gold shield and identified himself as a police officer.

The victim invited Forgetta, who is a Level 3 sex offender, up to her room, but once inside Forgetta assaulted the woman, raped her, then took her cell phone, money and purse before fleeing the scene in a silver vehicle, police said.

The victim gave the Police Impersonation Unit a detailed description of her attacker as well as the license plate of the vehicle he drove off in. She was then able to identify Forgetta in a photo viewing session with police, authorities said.

Forgetta was arrested Friday morning at the intersection of 17 Avenue and 62 Street in Brooklyn. He's charged with rape, robbery and criminal impersonation.
