Police: Man Exposed Himself To Joggers In Massapequa Park

MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man flashed a group of women who were running through a Nassau County park. Now police are checking to see if any surveillance cameras caught him in the act.

More police were driving through the Massapequa Park Preserve, even on a quiet, rainy Monday.

The reason? Officers told CBS2's Crystal Bui a man in his 20s exposed himself to a group of women jogging and then ran away.

"I guess every now and then somebody can do something unnecessary," jogger Frank Seminario Jr. said.

Police said the suspect is still on the loose and that's uncomfortable for a lot of people to hear.

"I'm surprised that there's not more of a police presence, if that's the case," Massapequa resident Kathy Jeacoma said.

But police said they're doing everything they can to catch this criminal.

"We are always out there intensifying our patrols," Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said. "We do walk-throughs, our mounted unit goes through. Our police cars are always going up and down in that area."

This wasn't the first incident on the 400-acre preserve. Years earlier, there was a rash of flasher incidents, men exposing themselves, alarming women, CBS2's Bui reported.

However, police said the numbers now are much better. This is the first incident of public lewdness in that area this year.

"We take this very seriously. This is public lewdness. It's an 'A' misdemeanor. if you are arrested and you're convicted, this is going to remain on your record for the rest of your life," Det. Lt. LeBrun said.

But as park-goers try to take in the last days of summer there is a reminder from police to keep your guard up, be on the lookout and watch each other's back.

"I hope it doesn't happen anymore," Seminario said.

Police say the suspect is believed to be a white man between 20 and 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.
