Police: Man Dead After Fight Leaves Him On Hood Of Speeding Car
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was killed Sunday, and a woman has been arrested and charged, after she allegedly smashed her car after driving for seven blocks with the man hanging onto the hood.
The 34-year-old man -- identified as Matthew Soria -- and the 51-year-old woman got into a quarrel at their home on Dexter Court in Woodhaven, Queens, Sunday morning.
"The male wanted the keys to the car, and the woman wouldn't give him the keys. He wanted some money as well," police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Soria ended up finding his way onto the roof of the car, police told the New York Post.
The woman was seen by a witness speeding westbound on Jamaica Avenue as the man yelled, the newspaper reported. The blue Ford Explorer then made a U-turn at headed east on Jamaica Avenue, before finally slamming into another car at Crescent Street in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, around 8:45 a.m., the newspaper reported.
"The victim fell off the hood and died -- as a result of the crash or the falling off still to be determined," Kelly said.
Soria was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The driver, and two others in the car she struck, were treated for minor injuries, according to published reports.
Police later announced Maria Espinosa, 51, of Queens, had been charged with manslaughter, murder and assault in the incident.
