Police: Queens Woman, 67, Sexually Assaulted By Man Asking For Water

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a Queens woman was sexually assaulted by a man who came to her door asking for a glass of water.

It happened Monday in Flushing around 2 p.m. Police say a man between 45 and 65-years-old walked up to a 67-year-old woman as she was going into her apartment and asked for some water.

Cops say when the woman invited him in, he asked for money.  When she said she had none, authorities said the man stole jewelry and sexually assaulted her at knife point.

"I'm appalled...it's very shocking this man could attack elderly women," Sheena Wallerson told CBS 2's Pablo Guzman.

"That's mind-boggling.  I mean, how can he do such a thing?" reacted Raidah Islam.

Police say while there is no excuse for what the man did to the victim, they say there was one mistake -- she let somebody in the building that she didn't know.

Anyone with information should call police or Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
