Police Make Arrest In Attack On NICE Bus Driver In Franklin Square
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island announced the arrest of a woman who they say attacked a Nassau County Inter-Express bus driver earlier this week.
The alleged incident started after police say the suspect, identified by authorities as Ivey Dixon became upset that the bus did not make an unscheduled stop.
According to police, the 38-year-old victim was driving a NICE bus on the N6 line, headed west on the Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, when Dixon became upset.
As the bus approached New Hyde Park Road, Dixon allegedly began hitting the driver in the head.
The bus stopped and the woman got off, along with a young girl, police said.
The driver was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.
The Village of Hempstead Police Department said on Wednesday two of its detectives and three uniformed police officers arrested Dixon following an anonymous tip.
Dixon, 27, was arrested on Terrace Avenue in Hempstead and was transferred to the custody of Nassau County Police Department Fifth Squad for processing.
She was charged with assault, and was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
