Police Looking For Hit-And-Run Driver After Two Critically Injured In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The police are looking for a gray-colored SUV that struck two people at approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the Bruckner Expressway service road, just a few feet west of White Plains Road.

"I was in my car, had my headphones on listening to my iPod, and you still heard the thump," one man told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

"That's why I thought a car jumped the road. That's how hard it sounded. But then you see people running to them, and it was two young kids laid out on the floor."

The witness said that right after the impact, he heard the SUV go even faster and drive away, possibly getting onto the entrance ramp of the Bruckner Expressway going westbound, which was about 1,000 feet ahead.

The SUV went through a yellow light and hit the two people -- a man and a woman in their 20s -- as they crossed the service road, police said.

"He tried to catch the red, yellow light and then I heard it go like hit something and I move my head. I see people run to the street. They said he hit two people and the guy he never stopped," witness Jose Arens told CBS 2.

There were no skid marks on the roadway; just the victim's clothes and shoes. Both are in critical condition and being treated at the Jacobi Medical Center.
