Police Looking For 3 Vehicles In Connection With Bodies Found In Queens Brush Fire
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for three vehicles in connection with the death of two men whose bodies were found by firefighters putting out a brush fire in Queens.
Police identified the victims Thursday as 22-year-old Rudy Superville and 25-year-old Gary Lopez, both of Brooklyn.
Their fully clothed bodies were found around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday as firefighters battled a brush fire at 159th Avenue and 78th Street in Howard Beach.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said the victims were bound and possibly gagged.
"My guess is they weren't there very long because the fire was started apparently to cover up the crime," he said.
The field of wild weeds is part of Spring Creek Park, the largest amount of undeveloped land and wetlands in the northern Jamaica Bay area with the Belt Parkway on one side and a bustling neighborhood on the other.
Crews found the bodies about ten feet away from the road. The medical examiner will determine how they died.
On Thursday, police released surveillance video of three vehicles that were seen in the area where the bodies were found at 157th Avenue at 83rd Street.
One is two-tone dark-colored custom van, the second is a four-door light-colored sedan and the third is a four-door dark-colored sedan, police said.
