Police Look For Hit-And-Run Driver Who Struck Brooklyn Boy
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who let a 12-year-old Brooklyn boy walk home on his own after being struck by a car.
As CBS 2's Lou Young reported, Rocco Loccosiano was crossing 80th Street in Dyker Heights around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when an impatient driver went around a double-parked car, blew through a stop sign and hit the boy in the crosswalk, breaking his arm. Loccosiano fell to the ground, and the blond female driver got out of the car, picked up his book bag and asked him if he was OK. After he claimed to be fine, she left.
"I was just scared," Rocco said.
Witnesses said the boy was crying and then he limped off toward home. His mother said it was immediately evident when got there that he was not fine.
"The bones looked like they misplaced," said Tina Loccosiano, Rocco's mother. " They were bulging from his arm.
Added Joseph Loccosiano, the boy's father: "Even though the child might've said he was OK, you have to know, he's a child. He really doesn't know any better.
Joseph Loccosiano tracked down witnesses and then contacted the police, who are looking for a black sedan with North Dakota plates. The driver could face charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
"You have no heart," Tina Loccosiano said. "You can't do that to a kid. He was terrified."
Rocco, who plays the drums, is not expected to return to school until next week.
"I think, 'Why did this have to happen?'" Rocco said. "That's what I feel."
