Police: LI Teen Killed After Losing Control Of Car, Crashing Into Guardrail
MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island teenager was killed after he took a high-powered sports car for a spin and crashed it.
Police said 18-year-old Samuel Shepard lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail.
The incident happened early Friday in Mount Sinai when Shepard took a test drive in a family friend's Lamborghini, Newsday reported.
Shepard was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital.
The car's owner, 49-year-old Michael Power of Port Jefferson Station, was a passenger in the car when the crash happened. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.
Shepard's father, Gene Shepard, told Newsday that his son had been selected to join the elite Army Rangers and was supposed to start serving in October.
Gene Shepard owns Good Shepard Autobody in Port Jefferson Station. He said Lamborghinis were his son's favorite car.
