Police Investigation Causes Nightmare Commute For PATH Train Riders
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was nightmare getting to work for PATH train riders Friday thanks to the domino effect of a police investigation in Manhattan.
Police attempting to catch a person suspected of trespassing on the tracks at 33rd Street shut down service at that station around 8 a.m. and caused delays on the line for about 30 minutes during the peak of the morning rush.
The Port Authority said the investigation forced many commuters bound for New Jersey to head to the World Trade Center station.
The situation went from bad to worse as those heading to Wall Street wound up coming into the World Trade Center at the same time.
Fearing that people could get trampled, the Port Authority decided to shut down all the escalators causing thousands of commuters to use the stairs, jamming all access in and out of the station.
Police eventually caught the suspected trespasser.
