Police Investigating Suspicious Powder On NJ TRANSIT Train At Penn Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is investigating a suspicious powder that was found on a NJ TRANSIT train at Penn Station Monday.
NJ TRANSIT said one of its employees found white powder on board one of its trains and alerted authorities, CBS 2 reported.
The substance was found at around 5:10 p.m. on a Northeast Corridor train bound for Trenton from Penn Station, WCBS 880 reported.
Hazmat crews were also called in to investigate the substance.
NJ TRANSIT told 1010 WINS the substance is not hazardous.
About 35 people had to be removed fro the train as a precaution. No injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile in Baltimore, police are reportedly also investigating a suspicious powder aboard an Amtrak train at its Penn Station.
Officials said it came out of a microphone after a conductor banged it against a wall, CBS Baltimore reported.

Hazmat crews on the scene found the substance was not hazardous, CBS Baltimore reported. Authorities said the powder appears to be crushed aspirin.
No injuries were reported and trains were not affected.
