Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing In Times Square

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The search is on for the suspect in a deadly stabbing in the heart of Times Square.

A fight inside a popular bar spilled into the street early Saturday morning, leaving one man dead.

The deadly stabbing happened right underneath the neon four-leaf clover of Playwrights Tavern. It brought no luck to 25-year-old Elliott Paulino, of Yonkers, who was killed during a fight that began inside the Irish bar on 49th Street.

Paulino was with friends at a private birthday party, where witnesses said he bumped into another man. That started a shoving match that grew so heated, bouncers cleared the bar at around 3:30 a.m.

The fighting continued on the sidewalk, and the suspect stabbed Paulino twice before running off.

Paulino was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

"I think he was at the wrong place at the wrong time," family friend Susan Bodolato said. "My older son used to stay with them and everything when they were kids, and they grew up together, so it's very heartbreaking – a kid you know very well that's not here no more."

Bodolato said Paulino was a bus driver in Yonkers, and was not the type to get into fights.

Even though the killer got away and is still on the loose, there were several witnesses, and several security cameras, in the area.

Investigators were looking at surveillance footage from several locations to help them track and catch the killer.
