Police: Home Invasion Suspect Nabbed By Good Samaritans
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect in a Bronx home invasion was nabbed at the scene of the crime thanks to the quick-thinking victim and the help of some Good Samaritans, police said.
Police told 1010 WINS the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Bruce Lee, had pushed his way into the woman's apartment at 20 East 190th St. in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx at around 6 p.m. Friday.
Police said Lee, of Brooklyn, then tied the victim's hands and feet with duct tape and stole money, jewelry and her cell phone. He then fled the apartment building.
The woman, still bound, was able to make her way to a window to scream for help, 1010 WINS reported.
Neighbors heard the woman's calls for help and grabbed Lee as he was exiting the building and held him until police officers arrived, police said.
"I was in my dining room and heard someone screaming," one neighbor told CBS 2's Dave Carlin. "Two guys, they hold him down until the cops could come."
Surveillance video shows several men who live in the building scuffling with and then stopping Lee.
"I am the super and I'm proud of my tenants, they all work together," one woman said.
Lee was found to be in possession of an imitation pistol, police said. Police released of a photo of the fake gun he allegedly used to get inside the apartment, Carlin reported.
The victim, who was seen in cell phone video with her hands still tied, did not want to go on camera, but her super said she is in a state of shock.
"She's OK, she's in shock, and she's still a little shook up, but thank God she's OK," the super said.
Lee was charged with robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and unlawful imprisonment among other charges.
"I feel safe because I know that there's other people here, and that they're going to watch over us," said one young tenant.
Police told 1010 WINS the victim and Lee did not know each other.
