Police: Hit-And-Run Driver May Have Dumped Body Elsewhere
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were trying to find a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man in Queens, and is believed to have dumped his body a block away to cover up the accident.
As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, police found Jose Padilla-Argueta dead on the street from what looked like bloody accident Thursday on Lansing Avenue near the Belt Parkway in the Rosedale section of Queens.

But there was no evidence or report of an accident. So police checked surveillance cameras and found there had indeed been in accident a block away.
A car that appeared on surveillance video had extensive front-end damage, including a broken roof, a caved-in windshield, and a broken bumper.
The theory goes that the hit-and-run driver scooped Padilla-Argueta up and put him in the car, drove him a short distance, and dumped the body.
People who live in the area said the man could not have walked the block from the accident scene, given that he had no shoes and his white socks looked to be clean.
Police were searching for the offending driver and vehicle involved. The vehicle was described as a white Volkswagen GTI.
