Police said Wednesday the suspects wore all black clothing and stole a small amount of cash and jewelry before fleeing the Park Avenue home on foot.
Police arrived at the home late Tuesday night and found the husband and wife frightened and injured. The couple said they were awakened by the doorbell just before 11 p.m. followed by the sound of breaking glass.
Police said one of the suspects was brandishing a handgun and confronted the husband when he entered the hallway. The wife called 911 after the suspects fled.
"This is a very traumatic incident. Anytime anyone enters and goes through your personal belongings, it's traumatic," Fairfield police chief Gary MacNamara told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "When the individuals confront you in your home, take control of you, and leave with things, that potential, late at night in an occupied home, is a very dangerous situation."
Investigators said information provided by the victims has led them to believe the couple was targeted and it was not a random crime.
The couple, both in their 80s, suffered minor injuries.
