Police: Underage Driver Charged With DWI In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police say a cab driver has died after a teenage driver slammed into the back of a taxi in the Bronx and fled the scene early Sunday morning.
The 19-year-old driver, identified by police as Roberto Depena, was arrested a short time after the 3 a.m. crash. He has since been hit with a slew of charges, police announced Sunday afternoon.
Depena has been charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, criminally negligent homicide, DWI, speeding and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol as a minor.
Police say the yellow cab was heading westbound on the Grand Central Parkway when it was struck by a Honda Sedan. The taxi hit the parkway median.
Police say the driver, identified as 38-year-old Ansumana Dukuly, died at the scene. The teenage suspect is in police custody and charges are pending.
