It happened around 1 a.m. on Julie Crescent in Central Islip. Police say the driver hit a tree with his SUV in front of a two-story home before it flipped and crashed through the home's garage.
Thankfully, the house was empty and up for sale, but the owner had just re-modeled and it looked brand new.
Neighbor Sophia Gabriell said the crash sounded like an earthquake.
"Boom, boom," she said. "It did not sound like bullet sounds or even a car crash. Thank God no one was walking across the street."
Police arrested the driver, Juan Carlos, on DWI charges. He was not seriously injured.
