That includes thieves striking two homes in Englewood Cliffs, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.
Investigators are busy looking into the incidents on the borough's south side.
In one case, police said thieves tried to get away with a safe, but failed.
In the other, police said the thieves succeeded, and did so while a woman was sleeping inside.
"In that incident, the alarm was not set at the house and the resident was home asleep. It's very concerning for me because a lot of issues could have developed out of that situation," Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Michael Cioffi told Adams.
Police said the woman's husband came home and discovered that the safe was missing.
The chief is pleading with people to be smart, to be safe, and to become the eyes and ears of the police.
He doesn't want people to hesitate to call, even if the slightest thing seems suspicious or out of place.
