Sources: NYPD Fans Out To Find Midtown Assassination Getaway Driver
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There has been a break in the case of the execution-style murder in Midtown. Sources told CBS 2 on Thursday that a manhunt was underway for the person police believe may be the getaway driver.
Sources told reporter Sean Hennessey that investigators have the identity of the man they think is the driver who drove the assassin away moments after Brandon Woodard was killed in broad daylight on Monday afternoon. The surveillance video never shows the driver, but the car's make and model enabled police to follow its path into Queens, locate the car, find out who rented it, and who may have used it.
"No suspect has been identified in this case," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said. "I would also say that leaks in this case are undermining or certainly have the potential of undermining the investigation. Certainly not in a position to identify a suspect here."

Kelly was otherwise tight-lipped on the case's developments, but did say NYPD officers in Los Angeles have gotten a search warrant to go into Woodard's home. They're hoping to find anything that might tell them about his business dealings, and who may have wanted him dead.
Woodard, the father of a 4-year-old girl, checked into a hotel on Sunday but checked out the next day. The video of his last moments seems to show him texting as he walked down 58th Street, as his assassin waited to pump a bullet into the back of his head. Police think the 31-year-old promoter with a checkered criminal past may have been drawn into a trap.
"You can see the victim looking at his phone and looking up as if he's looking for an address. So that's the reason behind the premise that he may have been lured there," Kelly said.
Sources told Hennessey that an outstanding money debt owed by the victim may have been the motive behind the murder.
