Police: Central Islip Teen Jumped Out Of Stolen Moving Vehicle Before Fleeing From Cops
BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Central Islip teenager is accused of jumping out of a moving stolen vehicle and fleeing from police.
The incident began when an officer tried to pull over the alleged stolen Maxima for a traffic violation around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday on Montauk Highway in Bay Shore, police said.
Five people jumped out of the car as it was moving and tried to run away, police said.
The officer managed to stop the Maxima, put it in park and then catch up to three female passengers who had fled the vehicle, police said.
The driver of the car, identified as 17-year-old Demorne Jack, was caught by another officer after his description was broadcast over the radio, police said.
It is unclear if the fifth occupant of the vehicle was caught.
Jack has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property and reckless endangerment.
He will be arraigned on Wednesday.
