Police Sources: Brooklyn Mom Left Kids Home Alone For Hours To Get Tattoos Worked On
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Brooklyn teacher and her husband are accused of leaving their three children home alone while they went for a night on the town.
Laura Aguero, 35, left her pre-teen kids home alone for hours, police said.
Aguero, who has been a City Middle School teacher for more than a decade, has children ranging in age from 4 to 12.
Police say a neighbor reported hearing a commotion coming from the home, could not make contact with anyone inside so then called 911.
The door is broken and neighbors said they suspect it happened when police went in to get the children out.
Officers then waited for the return of Aguero and her husband, identified by police as 41-year-old Alfredo Bobe. They came home close to 4 a.m., were arrested and questioned at the 72nd Precinct Station-house.
"It was probably pretty late to have kids home alone at 4 in the morning," Park Slope resident Domingo Cordero said
"It is just my opinion, no way," one woman said. "It has to be 13 years in order to leave it alone."
Police sources tell CBS2 Aguero told officers her evening out without the kids included getting her tattoos worked on.
Police say Aguero is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and her husband is charged with criminal mischief.
Now, her close to $79,000-a-year job at Middle School 88 may be in jeopardy, CBS2 reported.
Aguero started working at the middle school in 2004. On her record is a disciplinary action and fine, Carlin reported.
An incident outside the school in 2012 was described as a physical and verbal altercation with a vendor, Carlin reported. Records show Aguero was temporarily reassigned and fined $2,500.
About her new legal troubles, a department spokeswoman said, "While this alleged behavior is not school-related, it is unacceptable. She has been reassigned away from any classroom, and will not be in contact with students."
The couple is currently waiting arraignment.
