The student was not identified. He was charged with juvenile delinquency for bringing a weapon on school grounds. He was released to his parents. Police said no student was threatened.

The boy's father was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and child endangerment. Police withheld his name in order to protect the identity of the child.
In an email to WCBS 880's Sophia Hall, William Floyd School District spokesman James Montalto said the gun was "non-functional" and was discovered when a classmate notified officials at the end of the school day that the firearm was in the student's backpack.
"The incident is now a police matter," Montalto said. "Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken by school officials."
