Police: Boy, 10, Foils Home Invasion, Scares Off Suspects In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released surveillance video of two armed suspects who were scared off by a 10-year-old boy after they forced their way into a Brooklyn home on Monday.
It happened around 5:15 p.m. at a house in the area of East 80th Street in Canarsie.
The two suspects forced their way into the home and demanded cash from the nine people who were inside, police said.

When one of the suspects went upstairs and pointed a gun through a doorway, a 40-year old woman slammed the door on his arm, making him drop his gun, police said.
That's when police said the 10-year-old boy jumped into action, picked up the gun and fired a round at the suspect, but missed.
Police said one of the suspects fired back, but also missed before both suspects took off. No one was hurt.

Neighbors praised the boy's actions.
"Bravery man, bravery. That kid is a hero, he saved his siblings' lives!" resident Serge Duthely told CBS 2's Tony Aiello. "Not a lot of people would readily act like that, you understand what I'm saying? That's instincts! He did a good job. I'm very proud of him. I'd love to meet the guy, the little kid."
"He's a brilliant kid if he did that," neighbor Golding Lindo told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "He's a brave kid to save his mother and father."
"Everybody who lives here never thinks something like that could happen," neighbor Andre Souffrance told CBS 2's Don Champion. "So now we have to watch out for what's going on."
However, not everyone who heard about the boy's action said it was the smartest move. Neighbor Wayne Hunt said he worries about what the boy is going through.
"Kids are not supposed to see that, not supposed to go through things like that, you know?" Hunt said.
Members of the family were questioned by detectives overnight.
Mid-morning Tuesday, someone brought out a statement from the family that said, "Many of the victims are minors and are all traumatized on what occurred yesterday. We just want to continue with our daily routines."
Police describe the suspects as black men in their 20s. One was wearing a FedEx uniform. The other was wearing black shirt, pants and a hat.
