Police: Attempted Robbers Smashed Yonkers Department Store Jewelry Cases, Left Empty-Handed
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Police in Yonkers have labeled a brazen early morning robbery attempt at a department store highly unusual.
Police are searching for three masked men, one of whom may have been armed with a long gun, who made their way through a back entrance of the Lord & Taylor at Ridge Hill around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Several employees were in the store at the time and one was beaten up and treated at a local hospital, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.
The masked men also smashed some jewelry cases before fleeing the store empty-handed, according to police.

The Lord & Taylor store recently opened at the upscale Ridge Hill shopping center.
The store was able to open to shoppers on time and some customers said there was no sign of the incident.
"Nothing that I saw," a shopper told Diamond. "I'm sorry this happened because you don't want to put a stain on something that's so good."
Another woman at the department store said the incident has her on edge.
"Now I'm going to think twice. If something like that can happen at 6 a.m., there's no telling what can happen when the sun goes down," a shopper named Nicole told Diamond.
One shopper said he was not surprised by the robbery attempt at the new department store.
"Hey, here's a new potential pot of gold. Let's see how easy it is to dip into Fort Knox here. You're going to have to have beefed up security in uniform," a man said.
Police are reviewing surveillance videos to try to identify the attempted robbers.
