Police Arrest Brooklyn Man Suspected Of Sexually Abusing Two Young Girls
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Authorities say they've nabbed the man who they say sexually abused two young girls in the laundry room of a Queens building.
Mario Lopez, 52, is charged with burglary, luring a child, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Lopez managed to get into a building in Jackson Heights at around 7 p.m. Monday night. Lopez waved to children and walked with two girls, 4 and 9, into the laundry room, telling them he needed help, according to authorities.
Once in the laundry room, he allegedly abused both girls.
Authorities said he then offered to buy the 9-year-old candy.
The girls told their families what happened, who then called the cops.
"The defendant is accused of being a sexual predator," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. "Such an allegation makes him a threat to children and a clear and present danger to society in general. Such conduct, if proven true, cannot go unpunished."
Anyone else who believes they may have been victimized by Lopez, who lives on Chauncey Street in Brooklyn, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
