Police: 4 Suspects Arrested Minutes After Break-In Of East Patchogue Home
EAST PATCHOGUE, NY (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police say they arrested four suspected burglars just minutes after they allegedly broke into a home and detectives say the group is responsible for a string of other break-ins in the area.
Police arrested Francisco Sanchez, Marvin Escobar, Robert Alcantara and Jose Castro Friday morning after cops say they stole jewelry from a home in East Patchogue.
Sanchez is the alleged ring-leader. Police say he works for a company called Nationwide CATV, which has been a subcontractor for Cablevision.
Cops say the other three men would then allegedly help carry out the burglaries.
Detectives say they believe the four suspects are also responsible for thefts in six other Suffolk County towns, including Holtsville, Farmingville, Medford, Bay Shore, North Bay Shore and Terryville.
Cablevision released a statement Saturday, saying: "We are cooperating fully with the police and are immediately suspending work with the Nationwide subcontracting company, which provides a limited amount of work only in Suffolk County, New York, pending a complete review and through investigation."
Friday's arrests come following a rash of burglaries across the Tri-State area.
One of the latest break-ins was in Massapequa Park where police say one person distracted the homeowner while another suspect got into the home.
Escobar, Alcantara, Castro and Sanchez were all charged with burglary.
Police say Sanchez is also being charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing jewelry from a home while he was working for Optimum Cable in July, 2011.
