Police: 3 Teens Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Deliveryman On Staten Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three teens have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a food deliveryman on Staten Island.
As CBS 2's Don Champion reported, 16-year-old James Sanders, 17-year-old Otoniel Carty, and 19-year-old Devin Hill have been charged with second-degree murder, among other charges.
Sources told CBS 2 all three have had run-ins with the law before.
Around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, 50-year-old Richard Salvia was found shot in the head on Grandview Avenue in Mariners Harbor, police said.
A nearby resident found Salvia lying in the street with bags of Chinese food on the ground near his body. He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Through interviews with the teens and surveillance video, detectives said they determined the suspects called in a food order, and then approached Salvia, Champion reported.
One of the teens allegedly held a gun to Salvia's chest while the two others reached into his pockets.
Investigators said Salvia apparently jumped back and the suspects claim that's when the gun accidentally went off, Champion reported.
Salvia had more than a hundred dollars still in his pocket when he was killed.
Neighbors said the block has been a trouble spot for deliverymen in the past.
Police said Salvia was from Turnersville, N.J.
According to the manager, he had been working for the Crown Palace Restaurant on Forest Avenue for only a few weeks.
When detectives arrived, those inside the business said they knew little about him.
The Crown Palace Restaurant's manager told Champion the shooting has prompted changes in the way they track and check on deliverymen.
The three teenagers are expected to be arraigned Saturday morning.
