Susan Krebser, 46, of Levittown was driving northwest in the southeast lanes on Route 109 when her 1991 Buick Regal collided head-on with a 2012 Kia Forte driven by 70-year-old Jeanne Grazia of Islip, police said.
Grazia was pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center following the crash.
She was coming home from work at a funeral parlor in Farmingdale when the crash occurred, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.
Her daughter-in-law, Christine, said the family is devastated.
"She was literally five minutes from work when this happened," Christine Grazia told Rivera. "There's been a lot of wrong-way lately, I don't understand."
Grazia leaves behind three sons and a grandchild.
"My dad died 25 years ago; around the holidays too, so it's going to be tough," said Grazia's son, Robert Grazia. "I just wish people would stop drinking and driving."
"She was a great grandma, she loved her granddaughter very much," Christine Grazia said.
Grazia's boss said she was a loving employee.
"Jeannie has been with us a long time, almost 20 years -- wonderful, caring woman, dedicated employee, more than just an employee she was a member of the McCourt and Trudden family," said William Trudden, with McCourt and Trudden Funeral home.
Now, the funeral home where Grazia worked must arrange the wake and funeral of their cherished employee.

Police said Monday that Krebser, who was taken to the hospital in serious condition after the crash, had also died. Krebser was initially charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
Police said they recovered alcohol in Krebser's vehicle, CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported.
Neighbors said she had been despondent since losing custody of her teenage son in a divorce.
The investigation is continuing. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact police.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
