Point Pleasant Beach Keeps Midnight Bar Closing
POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Last call is coming a lot sooner at bars in one New Jersey town.
Point Pleasant Beach is keeping an ordinance passed last month that requires bars to close by midnight starting July 1.
On Tuesday night, the council rejected a compromise that would have allowed bars to stay open until 2 a.m. if they paid a fee to help pay for additional police patrols.
The move follows complaints by neighbors of rowdy bar patrons causing trouble when they return to their cars in the early-morning hours.
