Plea Deal For Westchester Woman Who Ran Illegal Daycare Where Baby Died
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Westchester County woman is expected to get probation after pleading guilty to endangering a child who died at her illegal home daycare.
Maria Villaloja of Ossining will be sentenced Oct. 31, after she pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor last Thursday, according to the Journal News.
Prosecutors said five-month-old Monica Yunga apparently suffocated after pulling a blanket over her head while she slept on April 26, 2011.
Charges against her husband were dismissed in May. Prosecutors said he was not home when the incident occurred.
Authorities said the couple previously had been warned about providing unlicensed childcare.
The Journal News reported that Monica was one of seven babies in the apartment. State law prevents daycare providers from caring for more than six children at a time, and no more than two children under the age of two.
