Pizza Deliveryman Fatally Shot In Head In Harlem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A pizza deliveryman was shot and killed Wednesday in Harlem.
Police said 37-year-old Jose Alvarado, of the Bronx, was returning from a delivery when he was shot in the head around 10:30 p.m. in front of the Papa John's Pizza on Amsterdam Avenue.
He was rushed to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident involving one of our valued deliver drivers from our franchise location in New York City," Papa John's Pizza said in a statement. "The safety and security of team members is a top priority for Papa John's. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, co-workers, and the entire community right now as they go through this emotional time."
Police said they believe Alvarado was killed during a robbery attempt.
The shooter fled on foot and remains at large.
