Pit Bull Puppy Tossed From Car On Long Island Released From Veterinary Hospital
BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The pit bull puppy thrown from a moving car in Brentwood last month continues to recover.
Joey the pit bull has been released from the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. When the three-month-old puppy was first brought in three weeks ago, he had a broken neck and was in critical condition.
"It was really, really bad. We even considered euthanasia at that point because we were worried about him suffering and he couldn't move any of his legs. He was completely paralyzed but he wagged his tail so we wanted to give him a chance. We saw that he was a fighter and he's come a long way," Dr. Lynda Loudon told WCBS 880.
The vet hospital has tracked Joey's progress through photos posted to its official Facebook page.
"He is doing great right now. He is healing faster than expected, he is walking and almost tried to run yesterday," said Dr. Loudon.
Joey will undergo physical therapy to continue getting healthier and stronger. In about a month, doctors expect he'll be healthy enough to be adopted.
"He's a very expensive case because he requires so much care. So the outpouring of donations and support for Joey has meant so much to us and it's really enabled us to really give him the best chance that we could," Loudon told WCBS 880.
Nearly $40,000 has been donated for Joey's care and another $27,000 has been raised for information leading to the conviction of Joey's abuser.
So far, more than 100 applications have been filled out by people hoping to adopt Joey.
