Pianist, 97, Pens Song To Honor Statue Of Liberty
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the Statue of Liberty set to reopen Thursday for the first time since Superstorm Sandy struck the Tri-State Area, a 97-year-old pianist has penned a first-of-a-kind tribute.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported Wednesday, Irving Fields has been playing piano and writing songs for 90 years, but he never wrote a song about the Statue of Liberty – and he said he is not alone in that oversight.

"No one in the world has ever written a written a song about the Statue of Liberty until now," he said.
Fields said the idea came to him over cocktails.
"I looked at the Statue of Liberty and I said, 'Here's to the lady,' as a toast," he said. "It came to me, and I wrote this song."
"Here's to the lady, she will reign eternally," the song goes in part.
"Who knows, maybe 50 years from now – 'Here's to the Lady' at football games, like they do, 'God Bless America,'" Fields said.
