PGA officials say that discussions about a championship coming this way are impressive.
"I mean, it's great. It's exciting. The electricity is just unbelievable," said one golfer, who remembers the thrill of two U.S Open tournaments at Bethpage.
Spectators even showed up in the rain to see Tiger Woods play.
"Well, I think it's good for the economy of Long Island, and there's a lot of golfers out here and as you've seen in the Open, a lot of people come out and they get a big crowd," said golfer Billy Martin.
Another golfer can think of only one negative to the major event coming to Long Island.
"Because I can't play golf for a month because then they close down the red course, the blue course. I mean it's great," he said.
