Pettitte Pushing For September Return
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Andy Pettitte is frustrated by his progress in rehabbing from a broken fibula.
Pettitte was placed on the disabled list on June 28, but is expected to return to the New York Yankees in September. There has been a few bumps along the way, but Pettitte has his eyes focused on taking the mound in September.
The Yankees' 40-year old left-hander has struggled through workouts and admitted that swelling and discomfort forced him to cut down on throwing activities.
"That was frustrating for me and kind of scared me," Pettitte said.
He will have x-rays on Sunday, then both he and the Yankees will have a clearer idea of when he'll be able to start throwing again.
There is no official timetable for Pettite's return. He is eligible to come off the DL on August 28, but he's pushing for September.
"I think I'll be back in September, yeah," Pettitte told The New York Times.
Yankees' General Manager Brian Cashman believes Pettitte is on-track to make a September return.
"With rehab, you have good days and bad days, good weeks and bad weeks," Cashman explained to The Daily News on Monday. "He's coming back in September, which is what we've said all along."
