Pettitte Frustrated By Setback, A-Rod Still Out
NEW YORK (AP) Andy Pettitte is getting frustrated by his slow comeback from a groin injury.
New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez is out, too. He was absent from the lineup for the second straight game because of tightness in his left calf. He previously said he wouldn't try to play Wednesday night, and manager Joe Girardi said he wasn't going to speculate on the status of the third baseman until he learned more about his treatment.
Pettitte, meanwhile, isn't sure when he'll pitch again. The left-hander, 11-2 with a 2.88 ERA, went on the disabled list July 20 and still can't throw as hard as he would during a game.
"I literally thought I was going to be ready to pitch against Boston" two weeks ago, Pettitte said Wednesday.
Pettitte said he was told after an MRI exam Tuesday that he still had a small strain. He threw about 40 pitches before going for the test. He also felt stiffness in the groin Friday while throwing 50 pitches in a simulated game in Tampa, Fla.
"My hip, just back in my glutes, just started tightening up on me," Pettitte said.
