Person Of Interest Questioned In Fatal Shooting Of 14-Year-Old Queens Girl
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A person of interest is being questioned in connection with the death of a 14-year-old Queens girl who was shot in the head and killed while on board a city bus, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Thursday.
Daja Robinson got on the Q6 bus in the southeastern part of Jamaica around 9 p.m. Saturday after leaving a Sweet 16 party with some friends, police said.
She was on the bus when a gunman fired at least nine shots from the street, police said. Robinson was struck in the right temple and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police are questioning a person of interest, but no charges have been filed.
"We have been looking for this individual since shortly after the shooting and we are speaking to him now," Kelly said.
Police believe the shooting was gang-related, but Robinson was not connected to any gang activity, CBS 2's Steve Langford reported Monday.
Kelly said it appears Robinson was an innocent victim of the gunfire.
"One thing is clear — she was not, in our judgment, the target of the shooting," he said. "Terrible, this is, as I say, another senseless shooting."
