Suspect Arrested In East Village Rape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Washington Heights man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in her East Village apartment early Monday.

Fermin Flores, 32, is charged with rape, burglary, criminal sex act and strangulation, police announced Tuesday night.

Police spent Tuesday questioning the man.

Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, the 22-year-old woman was walking into her apartment on East Seventh Street when the suspect pushed her inside and raped her, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. Before apprehending Flores, police released a surveillance video of a suspect.
