Perez Surrenders Three Runs, Astros Beat Mets
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Hunter Pence and Carlos Lee had RBI hits during a three-run first inning against Oliver Perez and the Houston Astros beat the New York Mets 5-4 Tuesday in a split-squad game.
Pence, who added a double in the third inning, is 11 for 21 this spring.
Perez, competing for a spot in the Mets' starting rotation, is in the final season of his three-year, $36 million contract. He gave up three runs on four hits in three innings. Pence singled home a run and Lee had a two-run double.
Astros starter Nelson Figueroa pitched three innings, giving up a run on a sacrifice fly by Zach Lutz.
J.R. Towles homered for the Astros off Pat Misch in the fourth.
