PATH Trains To Run Round The Clock For NYE; First Time Since Sandy Knocked Out Service
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - PATH trains will be back to 24-hour service in time for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced.
Service will temporarily be running round the clock for the first time since superstorm Sandy completely shut down the commuter rail line in late Oct.
The agency said the 24-hour service will be in place for the holidays next week, "to help revelers and holiday travelers reach their destinations safely."
Limited service from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. will return on Jan. 2 while the transit agency continues to repair flood damage sustained by the trans-Hudson commuter railway during the storm.
From 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve to 5 a.m. on New Year's Day, PATH trains will run every 10 minutes or so in both directions between Journal Square and 33rd Street, and between Hoboken and 33rd Street.
However, there will not be overnight service from Newark and the World Trade Center in the early morning of New Year's Day.
