PATH To Resume Pre-Sandy Overnight Weekday Service On Newark-WTC Line

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Overnight service on part of the PATH line is about to resume.

The Port Authority said weekday PATH trains between Newark and World Trade Center will begin running 24 hours beginning Monday night.

The line had been running weekdays from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. to accommodate overnight work related to Superstorm Sandy.

Overnight weekday service between Journal Square and 33rd Street via Hoboken has already resumed.

Crews continue to perform repairs overnight on weekends at the Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations. Trains won't run at those times through February to allow repairs to continue.

NJ TRANSIT GETTING BACK TO NORMAL

Meanwhile, NJ TRANSIT's Hoboken Terminal is back in business weeks after sustaining damage during Superstorm Sandy.

Executive Director James Weinstein will be on hand in the main waiting room to meet commuters at 4 p.m. Monday.

The waiting room is reopening for the first time since mid-December when mold was discovered in the cleanup after Sandy.

NJ TRANSIT has drawn criticism for its performance before and after the storm. In particular, critics have focused on the decision to leave train cars and locomotives in maintenance yards that suffered heavy flooding.

Trains into Hoboken are still operating on backup electrical power.

The agency said Sandy will end up costing it approximately $400 million.
