Port Authority Ron Marsico said there was a problem with the third rail in a tunnel in the middle of the Hudson River.
Marsico said no one was injured or trapped when the incident occurred early Monday afternoon.
Service between 33rd Street in Manhattan and Hoboken and 33rd Street and Journal Square in Jersey City was suspended for more than an hour as crews worked to repair the problem.
