PATH Resumes Limited 24-Hour Service Tonight
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There's good news for those wanting to party the night away, or work late, in the city and then get home to New Jersey.
The Port Authority has restored some round-the-clock PATH service.
Effective tonight, service from Newark to 33rd Street will operate from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. seven days a week. The service will operate via Hoboken and will include the following other stops: Harrison, Journal Square (where you will have to transfer coming in or out of the city), Grove Street, and Newport in New Jersey and Christopher Street, 9th Street, 14th Street, and 23rd Street.
That will be the only weekend service.
On weekdays, service will run from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the following lines: Hoboken to 33rd Street, Journal Square to 33rd Street, and Newark-Penn Station to World Trade Center.
There is still no service on the Hoboken to World Trade Center. The Port Authority is awaiting delivery of key switch and signal parts from a third-party manufacturer for restoration of that line.
Much of the equipment destroyed by superstorm Sandy was decades old and not easily replaceable. The agency expects delivery of the parts in late February. Crews will then install the parts and conduct extensive safety tests before PATH can resume service between Hoboken and World Trade Center.
In the meantime, those wishing to get to the World Trade Center on weekends can use the following options:
- Take the PATH to Christopher Street and then take the New York City Subway 1 train.
- Take the PATH to 9th Street then take the A, C, or E train from West 4th Street.
- Take the PATH to 33rd Street and then take the downtown R train to Cortlandt Street from 34th Street.
