Paterson Councilman Arrested In Voter Fraud Case
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A northern New Jersey city councilman faces charges stemming from a voter fraud investigation.
State troopers arrested Paterson Councilman Rigo Rodriguez, his wife and campaign manager Thursday morning.
The arrests came one day after the state Attorney General's Office announced the arrests of 11 of the councilman's supporters in connection to the case which stems from the May 2010 city council election.
Rodriguez is charged with witness tampering. His wife, Lissette, is charged with voter fraud, witness tampering, and public records tampering.
His adviser, Juan Jimenez is charged with voter fraud and witness tampering.
The other defendants are accused of tampering with mail-in ballots and filling out mail-in ballots for voters who either did not receive the ballots or who did not authorize them to vote for them.
