Passersby Shocked At Hole That Left Woman 6 Feet Under Sidewalk
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A gaping hole remained in the sidewalk Saturday morning, after the concrete caved in and left a woman injured the day before.
As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, one minute, the woman was standing on the sidewalk, and the next minute, she was six feet under.
The sidewalk caved in at 60th Street near Second Avenue on the Upper East Side. The woman was standing next to a sidewalk cellar door, with a stairwell underneath the concrete.

She was in front of an Atomic Wings restaurant waiting for a bus when she backed up to get out of the rain and went straight down through the metal grate, FDNY officials said.
One man took a look at the hole Saturday morning, noting that he frequently stands in the same spot.
"It's amazing," he said. "I'm not standing there now."
Tom Mateo could not believe his eyes as he waited for the bus.
"Oh my God, what a shame. If you look, this sidewalk is old. The grating is old, you know?"
The woman was taken to Cornell Hospital after the accident Friday afternoon, after being rescued from the hole using a special crane. She suffered relatively minor injuries.
