Passaic County Cities Get Grants For Public Safety
PASSAIC, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Several towns in Passaic County have received federal grants they hope to use to make life safer for their citizens, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported.

The city of Paterson got $135,000; Passaic got $57,000; and $18,000 went to Clifton.
"To maintain the level of service necessary to protect our community," Passaic Mayor Dr. Alex Blanco told reporters on Friday. "This funding will fund equipment that will assist our brave police officers."
U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez said that he is often reminded on Capitol Hill that "after September 11th, we promised local communities we would help keep police on the streets and keep them well-equipped."
Specialized tools, holsters, and flashlights are the kinds of things Paterson will upgrade, according to U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell.
He said the stuff they have now is old.
"That's putting it charitably," he added.
The Passaic Police Department will use its federal grant money to buy a multi-use vehicle and Clifton is upgrading its computer system.
"When police benefit, the public benefits," Pascrell said.
